activ Interview with Frachisees Lisa & Reece Smith

Activ Franchisees Lisa & Reece Smith talk to us about why they chose to start their own business with activ. And why they’re certainly glad they did!

What were your reasons behind initially researching starting your own business and specifically a franchise business?

“We were running a small graphic design business. We knew that we needed to diversify our offering and increase our client base but we needed support to do that.”

What was it that appealed to you about activ Digital Marketing Franchise?

“The price point was realistic and the technical and ongoing support was important to us. We wanted to know that as a small business we had a support network behind us, ensuring we all succeeded. We liked the fact it felt more like we were joining a family as opposed to a big faceless organisation.”

How did you find the start-up process in getting your business off the ground?

“It has been some time (over 12 years) since we started out but all the support we needed was in place. We’re aware that the head office team have been putting a lot of resource into practices and procedures. They are constantly making improvements as the business develops and grows.”

With your business now 12 years old, how have you found being a franchisee?  Would you recommend this to others in a similar position?

“We’d recommend joining activ to anyone who is looking to start their own marketing business. In 2021, the franchise rebranded under the new owner and it has really moved things on and up a level.

Katie Bullon, our new owner and MD, was a franchisee herself so she understands the stresses and strains involved in developing a business. But she also has a successful business and marketing background as well as a great drive. We’ve seen vast improvements since she took over and we have faith in her vision for how the business will continue to grow going forward.”

Do you have any words of wisdom for other budding entrepreneurs considering a franchise option?

“Running our own business has given us great freedom and flexibility in our life BUT it is hard work. You are buying a business opportunity not an income and the more effort you put in the more you will be rewarded. You can’t sit back and wait for it to happen to you! But if you are prepared to work hard, whether it is full or part time, then the support and products are there for you to create a successful business”
